The Golden Stone Perpetrator cleans house on early season trout when swung in the rivers of Bristol Bay. Cutts and Rainbows of Southeast, AK dig this pattern when fished in lakes and ponds. Don't forget steelhead too, they love a realistic buggy looking nymph, especially in low clear water. The Perpetrator is tied on a shank with a #6 trailing hook.

Jerry's WMD Sculpin is a rainbow trout slayer. It has a head profile that realistically pushes water and two sets of rubber legs to give it plenty of wiggle. The stinger hook in the back is ideal for hooking predators that attach from behind. This should be in your Bristol Bay Trout Box.

Fish Skull Zonkers are a beautifully tied update of the classic baitfish pattern. The Ice Queen version has a nice flashy belly and a white wing/tail that make it stand out in murky water. What really makes this fly pop though is the red throat. Whether the fish thinks the red is a flash of the gills or bleeding bait, who knows? What we do know is that trout devour this color combination, especially when fished in stillwater, slow moving streams or in the estuaries. The keel weighted Fish Skull Head gives this fly a lot of motion when stripped.

The Conehead Autumn Splendor is another big rainbow magnet. It is top flight searching fly that is money in deep runs and around root wads. Strip or swing this fly and hang on. The heavy cone gets it down and the rubber legs and profile wake up big predators. This fly is especially effective in the early season before the salmon arrive.

Check out this ultra-fishy version of an egg sucking leech. A shaggy dubbed body has long hackle fibers wound through and then it is counter-wrapped with thin wire to give the fly great durability. A heavily weighted body gets the fly down and the pink pearl bead on the front gives it an added level of attraction.

Sometimes less is more and having a few sculpins on the smaller end of the scale is a good idea. Mike's Mini Sculpin is only 2 1/4" long and has a minimal amount of materials in it. It gets right down to the bottom and is amazingly life-like as a sculpin hiding in the rocks.
