Tying the Clouser Minnow

Clouser minnows are one of the all-time great saltwater patterns.  If the fish you are fishing for eats smaller fish, it is almost a guarantee that you will have success with a Clouser minnow.  These easy to tie flies can easily be scaled up or down depending on the target species.  In general, Clouser minnows will have a darker color over the top of a lighter color.  Traditionally they are tied using bucktail.  Chartreuse/white is arguably the most famous color combination, but in Alaska we also have a lot of success with other colors.  Used more natural colors if you are targeting out-migrating trout or Dollie Varden.  When it comes to salmon, stick with brighter or contrasting colors.  Chartreuse, pinks, purple, white, and black are all great colors to mix and match.  In the video below, you will learn how to tie the Clouser minnow.  We have also compiled material lists for both trout/Dolly Clouser's as well as Clouser's for salmon.  Enjoy!
