9/25/25 Fishing Report

Thanks everyone who participated in this year's coho derby!  We had just under 80 folks sign up and 1/4 of the anglers who registered got their entries into the drawing.  Congratulations to Kyle Hopkins on his brand-new Echo EPR, Henry Meir on the water-proof and submersible Simms Dry Creek Backpack and Dave Harris who got our Grunden's Logo Bulkhead Jacket.  You three put in the hours and your hard work paid off!  The weather took a turn for the worse towards the end of the contest, but everyone had fun, and we can't wait until we get to do it all again next year.

There has not been a whole lot to report this last week.  Our normal fall weather returned with a vengeance and most of the freshwater was too high to even bother with fishing.  We have heard that there are still coho being caught out in the saltwater from the few brave anglers who didn't let this recent foul weather stop them from fishing.  We think there is a reasonable change that the coho fishing will continue for a couple more week, it just needs to clear up a bit in the channel.  For the rest of the fall the lakes around town will be good locations to get out and wet a line.  Until the ice forms on the lakes there will be opportunities to catch some cutts and Dollies in the still water.  Leeches, buggers and even dry flies can all be productive in the fall.  Try dredging flies down deep and fishing around bankside structure.  Next week will be our last report of the year and a little photo recap of the season.

As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports.  If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way!  You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.  Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release.  Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.

See you on the water!
