We are looking at traveling to Alaska next May 2025 on a cruise that would stop in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Anchorage and Denali, Do you know which of these would have the best May Fishing opportunities? I really appreciated your cruise write up and was wondering if anything changed seasonally?

I’ve had good luck hooking fresh sockeyes on the Kenai and I made every attempt not to snag them and to avoid lining them. In clear water I have seen them grab the fly, especially a pink and purple maribou fly. Most people tell me they seldom hit flies but I disagree and I think I do better than the people flossing for sockeyes. Obviously the red ones are defensive and hit flies that get close but I am talking about silvery sockeyes on the upper Kenai.
