Great question! If you are tying a large Dolly Llama with the 3/8″ conehead and you are targeting silver salmon I like a #1 Gamakatsu Octopus. It is slightly heavier wire than the smaller sizes and it has enough hook gap to keep a silver hooked up.
If you are targeting rainbow trout or Dolly Varden, I would decrease the hook size substantially to reduce the chance of injuring the fish. A #4 would be a better bet in this case.
