Question:

I've have been reviewing your fly selection. I am curious about the AK Clouser. What makes it different than a normal Clouser? Material type? More sparsely dressed? Longer shank? Thanks in advance.

Answer:

Hi,

This is a great question. Traditional Clouser Minnow’s are either tied on a 2x bronze downeye, or a stinless 2x straight eye slatwater shank. Our AK Clouser is tied on a nickel platede 4x straight eye. It is also tied sparser than most using about 1/2 of the materials used in tying standard clouser. We use them to mimic salmon smolt and so they need a longer/sleaker profile. We also use 1/69″ Lateral Scale rather than a mixture of Krystal Flash and Flashabou.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any further questions, shoot me an email to mike@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com
