Question:

hi do you make this popsicle fly

Answer:

Hi and thank you for checking in with use. The Popsicle version of the Alaskabou is a wrapped marabou pattern. The first thing you do when tying the version is to create a prop-ball out of medium or large chenlille. This ball will help give your fly “body” and profile. This is usually done about mid shank. Next you will wind in two pieces of spey blood quill marabou in hot or flourecent orange. These can be wrapped at the same time, jus make sure that the fibers all align (3-4 wraps total). Next find a piece of Hot Pink spey blood quill that has slightly shorter fibers than the previous orange pieces. Wrap this in with 2-3 turns. Tie in a wing of gold crystal flash that consists of 6-8 strands, that extends slightly longer than the feather fibers. Lastly, tie in a piece of purple blood quill marabou and wrap 2-3 wraps. The fibers of this piece of marabou should be about half as long as the spey blood quill.

Typically the hook on an Alaskabou is an up eyed barleet style black salmon hook like the Tiemco 7999 and you can tie them with or without a conehead.

Here is a link that demonstrates the difference between spey blood quill and standard blood quill marabou. It also demonstrates how to wrap marabou. Click on the following link to check it out. Blood Quill vs Spey Blood Quill Marabou.

I hope that this is helpful. Please let me know if I can help in more ways.
