Question:
What reels and lines pair well with this rod?
Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your inquiry. For reels, most in the 9/10 size should work with this rod depending on which line you go with. I like using the Redington Behemoth for its affordability. If your looking at using a full caged reel, check out the Lamson Guru HD 9+ or Sage’s Spey 7/8/9. For a line, there are a few options. If you’re just getting started, look the Rio Switch Chucker. It’s not my favorite, but it’s uncomplicated. If you are looking for a Skagit Head System, look at Rio’s Skagit Mx Power or OPST Commando. We would need to match up some tips for both of these line for them to perform correctly. If you are looking for a line to indicator/nymph with, Rio’s new Switch Indicator could be a good choice for roll casting long indicator rigs. Finally, is you are looking for a line to cast off of beaches, something like the Rio Outbound Short bumping up 4 sizes would load that rod nicely. They don’t make the Outbound Short in a floating in the 11/12 wt sizes, but they do make it in a full intermediate sink. I’m using it with my old 8116-4 Sage One and it launches.
I hope that you find this helpful,
Mike
