Question:
Looking at the Echo OHS 8wt for AK trip for Coho, but also want to use it for nymphing out of a boat for steelhead. I've read conflicting info on lining. What line do recommend ? The SA Anadro Indictor? Airflo indicator line?
Answer:
Hi,
Mike here. The OHS rods are awesome rods, but also an interesting rod to line up. I have my 7wt line up with the Airflo Indicator and really like it for small stream indicator steelheading and fishing the Kenai for late season bow. This is mostly throwing indicator/long leader and lots of splitsho out of the boat. This set up works well for me. I’ve thrown some pretty heavy streamers with this set up too and the line turns over big flies. There’s better lines for chucking streamers, but probably not one that does both.
I do not have a let of experience with the SA Andro, but it has a long head which may be hard to use with big flies for silvers. My coworker is playing with that line and I believe he’s not liking it for anything other than rollcasting indicator rigs.
My two cents, for what its worth, would be to look at Airflo Indicator or a line with a similar taper. Worst case scenario is you don’t like it and you thin I’m a nut, lol. I guess I should ask if you how you are going to throw it for silver, over hand or double hand/spey? The Airflo Indicator rolls good, but not a good line to two handed casting.
