Question:

Hello, we are coming up to Juneau in August 2020, primarily to fish out of a boat for salmon and bottomfish. However, we will have an additional three days to explore locally. We are all avid fly and spin fishermen and am wondering about other opportunities in the area to explore. We will have a rental car. Would also be open to a day trip with a local guide if that is recommended. Probably not in the cards to do a flyout. Thanks!

Answer:

August is prime time for pink and chum salmon as well as Dolly Varden in the local creeks. The second half of August also is early silver salmon season.

There are a lot of streams and beaches you can access via a rental car and when you get here we would be happy to point you in the right direction. If you can bring waders you will have a lot better chance of catching fish. It is not 100% out of the question to fish without waders but it is tougher for sure.

Check in with us when you get here and we’ll get rolling. FYI, there are no guides available in Juneau for road accessible fishing.
