7/31/25 Fishing Report

The nice weather continues, and word is that one lucky angler tied into a coho at the Shrine this last week!  There are a bunch around in the saltwater, but for someone to get one from shore is July is early.  We have our fingers crossed for another absolutely epic coho season.  If you can get out on a boat with a sink tip then throwing big baitfish under kelp and in known coho areas should produce some seriously fun fishing.  If you can't get on the water, then fishing off the rocks out Lena is a great bet also.  We anticipate the cohos showing up around Sheep Creek sometime in the next week or two.

The creek fishing has been challenging lately.  Cowee Creek is running high and very cold, while Fish Creek and Montana Creek barely have enough water in them.  Once we get our next slug of moisture the fishing is going to be absolutely lights out.  If you haven't got a chance to try our new beads from South Central Bead Company then now is the time.  Fresher colors in 10mm are what you want to be throwing in Cowee right now.  We recommend either The Goog or Drift Easy.

As we get into August it's time to start thinking about this year's coho derby!  We won't spoil the details just yet, but the big change this year will be going to a drawing, similar to this year's king season.  Last year the derby only lasted one day, and we want to make sure everyone that wants to participate gets a fair shot.  We will release more details next week, but a couple things you can count on are it will start on August 15th, and the top prize will be a fly rod.

As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports.  If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way!  You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.  Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release.  Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.

See you on the water!
