7/25/25 Fishing Report
More of the same this week as the salmon keep pouring in and the Dollies remain actively feeding in the freshwater. It sounds like Sheep Creek has been absolutely dynamite. Whether you are beading for Dollies or after some alligator chums, this is a sure shot at catching fish. The pinks are filling up other local creeks such as Montana, Cowee and Fish Creek. These streams will keep fishing better and better. Hit Cowee in periods of no rain and the flashy streams when the water gets higher.
If you are trying to target Dollies look for the pieces of water that don't have a ton of salmon. With big runs like this year often times the salmon push the Dollies out of the way. Use 10mm beads in Cowee and 7 or 8mm beads in places like Montana Creek or Fish Creek where the water is clearer and lower.
Kings are pretty well wrapped up this year, but the cohos are close! If you have a boat, grab a sink tip line and some hug baitfish flies and head out towards North Pass or Aaron Island. If you can find a bait ball, then you should be able to strip big baitfish flies for hungry and super-hot cohos. This is a fishery that is not really taken advantage of, but it could lead to some of the wildest salmon fishing that you have seen. Think big musky on mid-west lakes.
As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports. If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way! You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com. Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release. Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.
See you on the water!
