7/17/25 Fishing Report

As we move into mid-July we are in our mid-season "lull" which still would be classified as world class fishing by most metrics.  There are still kings around and anglers are having success in Lena Cove and the mouth of Fish Creek.  Most beaches around town have chums cruising off of them and the humpies are getting within range as well.  For the best pink fishing right now, we recommend Echo Cove.  There is a decent school out there and when they swim by you are almost guaranteed to hook up.

The Dollies are fully in Sheep Creek and starting to fill into Cowee Creek out the road and Montana Creek in good numbers.  Fish Creek still doesn't have much in it, but this will change any day now as the pinks and chums start to establish themselves in their spawning beds.  Most of the luck we have heard about in the freshwater is still with streamers and baitfish patterns, but I would have some really fresh-looking beads and try them as well.  The egg drop is extremely close to starting.  Beads are already working the best in Sheep Creek.  We brought in the new South Central Bead Company beads this year and they are extremely realistic looking.  They also come in the 7mm size, which can be exactly what you need when the water is low, and the fish are spooky.

As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports.  If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way!  You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.  Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release.  Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.

See you on the water!
