Question:
Brad
I like the versatility of this rod for both single and Spey casting. What weight would you recommend for Alaska silvers? I will be fishing out of Cordova again this fall. I was thinking a 7 wt for versatility or would 8 wt be better? Also what line would you recommend that would work for both styles? Last year we did not have to make super long casts for the silvers. Finally is there another rod you would recommend over this one? I like the shorter length. I appreciate your help.
Answer:
Hi John,
The SR is a great rod, one of the truer switch rods out there. For silvers in the Cordova area, I would probably go with the 8. Not because the 7 can’t handle the silvers there, but because of how heavy the flies tend to be (Dolly Llamas, Jig Spankers, etc…) The 7 doesn’t quite have the punching power. If you do choose to go with the 7, plan on more single hand/ double over hand than spey.
Hope this helps,
Mike
