Question:
I’m guessing you bump up the size? Like for a Sage HD 3110, you would use 6wt SHS?? I’ve been using a 16-18’ intermediate 10’ versileader with a hand tied soft hackle rig off the end of it. Spooky tailwater fish…. My line now is pretty clunky. The SHS has that long front taper and I am thinking that would make the cast much more elegant. Could SHS handle that and give me a softer touch? Can you throw a light bugger with it? any of the old single hand spey still in stock? Rhanks!
Answer:
You are correct! Your 3110 Sage Trout Spey will take a “triple bump” when using a single hand spey line. So the WF6F is the line here.
I have fished the Single Hand Spey line on my 10 foot 4 weight and my 9′ 9″ 8 weight. They roll cast like a dream due to the progressive long front taper. I often fish indicator rigs with them and turning them over is no problem, so throwing a lead eye bugger on your 3110 would not be an issue. And they are very smooth and delicate since the front taper becomes thinner and thinner so I would think soft hackles would fish very well with this line.
