Question:
Is an echo ion XL a good rod for fishing for lake trout?
Answer:
Hi and thank you for the inquiry,
The Ion Xl could be an excellent rod for lakers. If you are fishing for smaller fish in the spring or late fall, a 6 or 7 wt would be fun. If you are thinking of chasing bigger fish, you would want to bump up to an 8 or even 9 wt. The big thing with getting into lake trout on the fly is having the right lines for the right situation and having the ability to turn over big flies. If you would like to know more about different lines for different situations, send an email to mike@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.
