7/3/25 Fishing Report

After what was some surprisingly heavy rain this last week we are drying out and the fishing is getting good again.  The real hot spot as of late has been Lena, with both boat and shore anglers reporting some absolutely banner days.  Now that the water out around Fish Creek is clearing up there should still be some opportunities for kings out North Douglas as well.  Lots of chums are around and they are super bright this time of year!  Chums my not have the same appeal as king salmon, but don't knock them too much.  These are the second largest of the Pacific Salmon and are total bruisers.

There was a brief lull in the freshwater fishing with the high-water last week, but most area streams are back in shape and fishing well.  Try baitfish and leech patterns.  Beads aren't working just yet but, Senyo's Egg Raider is a new take on an Egg Sucking Leech and is an ideal pattern to try throwing this time of year.

Last call for the raffle entry.  We only have 5 people so far and the kings are still being caught.  Make sure you have photos in to either our Instagram page or emailed to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com by 10am July 5th to be eligible for the drawing.  We will do the drawing around noon on Saturday July 5th.  You do not need to be present to claim your prize.

We will be close on Friday July 4th.  We hope everyone has an excellent holiday weekend.  See you back in the shop Saturday morning at 10.  We will announce the winners of the king salmon drawing Saturday afternoon.

KING CONTEST RULES:

Catch one king salmon North of the Douglas bridge and one king salmon South of the Douglas bridge.  These fish must be caught with a CAST fly.  You can cast off a boat, but no trolling.  Each fish caught must be photographed with the fly CLEARLY VISIBLE in the mouth in such a way that your location is verifiable.  Anywhere withing the terminal harvest area is fair game for this contest.  Once you have caught your two fish (on fly, in the terminal harvest area) and shared or brought in your two photos, you will be entered into the drawing.  First prize will receive an Echo fly rod, perfect for the upcoming coho season.  Second place will receive a custom painted box of beads for Dolly season and third prize will be a Grundens AFFG Sun Hoody in the winner's choice of size and color.  The drawing will be on July 1st, and the contest will run the entire month of June.

As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports.  If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way!  You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.  Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release.  Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.

See you on the water!
