6/26/25 Fishing Report

The sunshine was nice, but it doesn't help the fishing.  The return of the wet weather may be bittersweet for some, but it will surely help these fish settle down and once again become more active.  The kings are still around but have become a little tighter lipped as of late.  There are still some excellent tides coming up to get your kings and enter into our drawing.

Windfall Creek has fish and now water, so if you have always wanted to check out the fishery and get a road system sockeye on the fly, make sure you go Saturday.  This is the last day to fish Windfall Creek until August.  Reports from yesterday were excellent, with lots of fish and not much angler pressure.  Those of you who make the journey will likely be rewarded with a fresh sockeye salmon for dinner.

Even with the king numbers staying strong, the chums are pouring in as well.  As you can see in one of the below photos, there are even pinks around!  With the salmon on the way, Dollies are starting to make their way back into the streams around town.  For the first little bit try either the same baitfish flies that you have been using in the salt or bright attractor leeches.  Very occasionally weird flies like mice and dry flies will work which is a ton of fun.  We expect that fresh beads will start working here within the next couple of weeks but have some with you and don't hesitate to give it a shot if other flies aren't working.

We are extending the contest dates through July 4th (we will be closed).  Have photos in to either our Instagram page or emailed to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com by 10am July 5th to be eligible for the drawing.  We will do the drawing at the shop Saturday July 5th.  You do not need to be present to claim your prize.

KING CONTEST RULES:

Catch one king salmon North of the Douglas bridge and one king salmon South of the Douglas bridge.  These fish must be caught with a CAST fly.  You can cast off a boat, but no trolling.  Each fish caught must be photographed with the fly CLEARLY VISIBLE in the mouth in such a way that your location is verifiable.  Anywhere withing the terminal harvest area is fair game for this contest.  Once you have caught your two fish (on fly, in the terminal harvest area) and shared or brought in your two photos, you will be entered into the drawing.  First prize will receive an 8wt Echo EPR saltwater fly rod, perfect for the upcoming coho season.  Second place will receive a custom painted box of beads for Dolly season and third prize will be a Grundens AFFG Sun Hoody in the winner's choice of size and color.  The drawing will be on July 1st, and the contest will run the entire month of June.

As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports.  If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way!  You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.  Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release.  Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.

See you on the water!
