The 890-4 One is our rod choice for this package. It is the most versatile and easy to cast rod out there and roll casts beautifully for a fast action rod. Anglers with a slighty slower casting tempo will love the Winston BIIIx rods. The BIIIx is smooth and powerful and it is amazing how little effort is needed to cast it. If you are looking for a flat out cannon, check out the Winston BIIMx rods. The M stands for Maximum and they aren't kidding. The Mx will throw some serious line. However, it is not quite the roll caster that the other two rods are.
For reels, the Abel Super Series is our choice. The Super 7/8 QC is a perfect fit on a 9 foot 8 weight due to its light weight and trim profile. It also features a quick release spool. The Abel Super 7/8 is a good fit as well in a non-quick release spool format. The Nautilus NV is a fantastic reel with a totally sealed disc drag and a light but solid feel to it.. The galvan torque 8 is a proven winner and its light weight and large line capacity make it a favorite of anglers. The Nauitlus CCF is a powerhouse that will take a serious beating on the river.
The package includes a scientific anglers sharkskin Magnum Taper fly line. If you need to cover a lot of different fishing situations, consider the Rio versitip. With five interchangable tips, from full floating to fast sinking, you can cover all your bases. We also offer several floating non-Sharkskin lines such as the Rio Grand, Clouser and Indicator tapers. If you want a sink tip line and had to choose one, we would recommend the Wet Tip IV. It is medium-fast sinking and works well all over Alaska. A Wet Tip III (medium sink rate) or Wet Tip V (fast sink rate) are also options.
