Switch and Spey Casting with George Cook 
Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1

Come join us in a two handed learning experience with Spey Expert and Casting Instructor, George Cook.  Three sessions available. George is the Pacific Northwest and Alaska Representative for Sage Fly Rods, Redington Fly Fishing, Rio Fly Lines and many more.  George is also one of the featured instructors in what is probably the best how to Spey casting video available today: Rio's Modern Spey Casting.  Whether you're a beginner or advanced, you will leave the river a better caster after working with George.

Session One: Saturday, May 31 from 1pm-4pm
Session Two: Sunday, June 1 from 9am-noon
Session Three: Sunday, June 1 from 1pm-4pm

Cost: $75 (must prepay)

Where: Mendenhall River at the Back Loop Bridge/Moose Lake Trailhead.

  • Rods will be provided for the class, or you are welcome to bring your own.
  • Waders or Hipboots required (not provided), and  sunglasses or eye protection highly recommended.

Intro To Fly Fishing Class

Saturday, May 10 from 9am-4pm

This introductory class will teach you everything you need to know to help you get started.  The first half of the class will be held at the shop, where you will learn the what, why, where and how.  The second half of the class will focus on learning the fundementals of fly casting. Our goal in the second segment is to get you adequately casting and to help give you the confidence you need to start fly fishing.

All materials and equipment (rods/reels) provided. Coffee available.  There will be a one hour lunch break between the morning session and the afternoon session.  Class is limited to 6.  Payment in advance is needed to ensure a spot in the class. Class Fee is $95 + tax.  The Instructor will be Mike Cole. 

To Bring:

  • Rain Gear (Jacket and Pants)
  • Waders (if you have them)
  • Boots or Hip Boots if no waders
  • Warm clothes
  • Glasses (Regular or Sunglasses)

Trout Unlimited and Rain Country Fly Fishers
Casting Night and BBQ @ Twin Lakes

Thursday, May 22 from 6pm-8pm

Come join us for the annual casting night and BBQ hosted by Trout Unlimited and Raincountry Fly Fishers.  We'll be providing all of the equipment for free casting lessons.  Whether you are new to the game or just want to come down and celebrate spring, we'd love to see you.  It is also a great time to break out your equipment and make sure that everything is in good working shape before hitting the water this summer.  Hope to see you there!

PRIVATE LESSONS

  • Want to learn to fly fish?
  • Want to learn new on-stream techniques to catch more fish?
  • Does your busy schedule not allow you to attend our regular classes?
  • Looking for one to one instruction?

A Private Lesson is just the ticket for you. Tell us what you want to do and we'll come up with a plan to make it happen. We offer instruction for singlehand or switch and spey casting.

Please note that this is not guided fishing. A current Alaska Fishing License needed.

Cost is $50 per hour. A typical beginning lesson is 3 hours and and an intermediate lesson is often between 2 and 4 hours.

RAINCOUNTRY FLY FISHERS

The Raincountry Fly Fishers are Juneau's local fly fishing club. They meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from January - May.

Meetings are held from 7-9PM. New members are always welcome.

JUNEAU AREA FLY FISHING MAP

We have created two maps of fishing areas on the Juneau road system.

You can click to view either map and print them out.
To find out what areas are currently fishing well, check out the latest Juneau Fishing Report or contact us.


Map #1 shows the entire road system as well as a blow up of the Mendenhall Valley.


Map #2 has detailed maps of four local areas: Echo Cove, Fish Creek, Peterson Creek, and Sheep Creek.
