Intro To Fly Fishing Class

Want to see what fly fishing is all about? Here's a great chance to check it out. We will be offer free two hour intro classes ever other week through out the summer,  starting Saturday June 14th.  These classes are just a quick intro into the world of fly fishing.  Classes will meet at the shop for a quck thirty minute intro to rods, reels and knots.  Then the class will move to the Mendenhall River for an hour of casting demonstration and instruction.  Please call with any questions. 

Cost: Free

 To Bring:

  • Rain Gear (Jacket and Pants)
  • Waders (if you have them)
  • Boots or Hip Boots if no waders
  • Warm clothes
  • Glasses (Regular or Sunglasses)
  • Hat/Head Protection

PRIVATE LESSONS

  • Want to learn to fly fish?
  • Want to learn new on-stream techniques to catch more fish?
  • Does your busy schedule not allow you to attend our regular classes?
  • Looking for one to one instruction?

A Private Lesson is just the ticket for you. Tell us what you want to do and we'll come up with a plan to make it happen. We offer instruction for singlehand or switch and spey casting.

Please note that this is not guided fishing. A current Alaska Fishing License needed.

Cost is $50 per hour. A typical beginning lesson is 3 hours and and an intermediate lesson is often between 2 and 4 hours.

Beach Fishing for Pinks
When: Saturday, July 19 from 10am-Noon
Where: Echo Cove
Host: Mike Cole
Cost: $20 which includes flies and a leader
 
Join us for a morning of laughter and fun learning about one of Juneau's local Pink Salmon Fishery. This is a great way to work on your casting skills and techniques. Some fly fishing expirience is necisarry. Group is limited at eight anglers. Bring your own waders, rod and reel, and don't forget your fishing licence!

Women's Hosted Days
 
Beach fishing for Pinks
When: Saturday, July 12 from 9:00-Noon
Where: Echo Cove
Hosts: Michele Elfers
Cost: $20 which includes flies and a leader 
 
Join us for a fun day and learn about one of Juneau's great local fisheries.  Beach fishing for pinks is a great way to hone your fly fishing skills.  Learn about techniques, timing and tides. Some fly fishing experience is necesarry. Group is limited to six anglers. Bring your own rod/reel, waders and do not forget your fishing license.

Stream Fishing For Dolly Varden with Beads
When: Saturday, August 2nd from 9-noon
Where: Montana Creek
Cost: $20 which includes a small box of beads, tackle and a leader
Host: Michele Elfers or Kayla Roys
 
Learn how to rig and fish beads for catching Dolly Varden. Plastic Beads are great salmon egg imitations and are incredibly effective.  Better yet, beads are less harmful than traditional egg patterns when releasing fish.  Montana Creek is a great spot to learn how to fish this technique.

RAINCOUNTRY FLY FISHERS

The Raincountry Fly Fishers are Juneau's local fly fishing club. They meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from January - May.

Meetings are held from 7-9PM. New members are always welcome.

JUNEAU AREA FLY FISHING MAP

We have created two maps of fishing areas on the Juneau road system.

You can click to view either map and print them out.
To find out what areas are currently fishing well, check out the latest Juneau Fishing Report or contact us.


Map #1 shows the entire road system as well as a blow up of the Mendenhall Valley.


Map #2 has detailed maps of four local areas: Echo Cove, Fish Creek, Peterson Creek, and Sheep Creek.
