From Us:
Made of a hybrid cast and machined aluminum, the Ion reel provides you with benefits of a machined aluminum bar stock reel without breaking the bank on a fully machined aluminum reel.

All Echo Ion die cast reels are collated with an impact resistant matte black finish to provide the best looking, long lasting finish.

The Echo Ion reels have stainless steel internal components and are primarily designed for fresh water use. They can be used in the salt providing extra care is taken to clean and lubricate them after each day on the water. At $79.99 retail for the two small reels and $99.99 for the two larger reels the ION reels are a real "No Brainer". Spare spools retail for $34.99 and $44.99 respectively.

A few notes on sizing:
Ion 4/5 Reel - Spot of for your 5 weight rod.
Ion 6/7 Reel - Like the name says, it is ideal on a 6 or 7 with plenty of backing capacity for the 7.
Ion 7/9 Reel - Your all-around 8 weight rod reel.
Ion 8/10 Reel - You can put it on an 8 weight but it is a little big. It is spot on for a 9 or 10 weight single hand rod. It is also a great 7 or 8 weight switch reel.
Ion 10/12 Reel - We mostly suggest this reel for Spey rods in the 6/7/8 weight sizes.
