Sage One 8116-4

The 11'6" 8wt One is the big daddy of the family. This rod will get the job done! Whether swinging big flies and sink tips or nymphing bowling ball sized beads out of a boat, you'll be happy to have this rod when the big one grabs your fly!

From Us:
The 8116-4 is THE Switch rod when it comes to chasing anadromous salmon and trout. It will cover the bases whether it be long indicator rigs and beads on the Kenai, stripping streamers for silvers in Bristol Bay, skating dries on the Bulkley or swinging nymphs for Tierra Del Fuego Browns.

This rod is versatile. Great for overhead beach or boat casting, single hand indicator fishing with long leaders, skating dries with a Scandi head or throwing heavy flies and sink tips with a Skagit head.

The 8116 can do it all and do it all well. This is our favorite Switch rod for coho and steelheading SE Alaska. Also a favorite for the Kenai, Illiamna and Bristol Bay area trout and salmon. We've even tackled 25+ pound kings with this bad boy!

Reel Recommendations:
Lamson  Litespeed 4
Nautilus NV 9/10 or CCF-X2 9/10
Hatch 9 Plus

Line Recommendations:
Single Hand Lines:
-Rio Outbound WF-10F or WF-10 Intermediate for beach casting or overhead casting from a boat
-Rio Switch 8/9 Great for nymphing or beading (boat or shore) and with sink tips for single hand casting
-Rio DC 24' Streamer Sink Tip 400 grain for getting deep when overhead casting

Please note that these are recommendations that we like. Some casters prefer to over line this rod by 2 line sizes. We feel this rod will fish well with both 9wt or 10wt lines. Pleae email us with questions.

Double Hand/Spey Lines 480-570 grains:
(Please note that this rod has one of the largest grain windows on the market and can work with a number of lines depending on casting ability, casting stroke and preferences).
-Airflo Scandi Compact 480-510 gr.- For dry line use such as skating dries and swinging nymphs (We like the 510gr for advanced casters, the 540gr. for most casters. New to the game? Try the Skagit Switch in a 510).
-Airflo Skagit Compact and Skagit Switch 510-570 gr.-For use with a sink tip and heavier flies (The 480gr. works well for advanced caster who like lighter heads. We like the 510gr. for most sink tip needs, but those who like to heavily load the rod may prefer the 540gr.)
-Rio Scandi Short Versitip #8 485gr. This is a great choice if you're looking to cover as many bases as possible. Throws both Skagit and Scandinavian cast with ease and can be thrown over hand when needed.

Poly Leaders/Sink Tips:
-Airflo 10-14' Polyleaders (Floating and Intermediate sink for use with Scandi Heads and Fast Sink-Extra Super Fast for use with Skagit-style heads.)
-Airflo Custom Cut 200, 330 gr. cut to 8'-12' (Use with Skagit style heads and lines.)
Rio T8 cut to 10'-15', T11 cut to 10'-15'(Use with Skagit style heads and lines.)
